Juan José Campanella directs HBO Max docuseries on Flores Massacre

Filmmaker Juan José Campanella has directed a three-part docuseries for HBO Max exploring the Flores Massacre, one of Argentina's most significant criminal cases. The series reconstructs the 1994 tragedy in which an intentional fire destroyed the Bagnato family home in the Flores neighborhood of Buenos Aires, killing five people: parents Alicia and José, sons Fernando and Alejandro, and a family friend.

Matías Bagnato, who was 16 at the time and the sole survivor, provides exclusive testimony. The production focuses on his personal resilience and "three rebirths" over the decades following the event. The series utilizes family archives, journalistic records, and interviews with judges, prosecutors, and police to detail the investigation that led to the 1995 life sentence of Fructuoso Álvarez González, who was motivated by economic disputes.
