Juan José Imbroda calls for better military pay and land recovery in Melilla
Juan José Imbroda, president of the People's Party (PP) in Melilla, has called for an immediate improvement in the economic conditions and retirement security of Spanish military personnel. He described the situation as a “pending matter,” noting that professional soldiers often retire around age 45 with monthly pensions that do not reach the minimum wage.
Imbroda argued that increasing emoluments is essential to attract more applicants to the Army and to provide dignity to those who risk their lives in missions such as those in Lebanon, Iraq, or Afghanistan, as well as in domestic wildfire suppression.
Additionally, Imbroda stated that Melilla intends to recover lands belonging to the Ministry of Defense, asserting that citizens should not pay for land that should belong to the city. He also criticized the Ministry of Defense for allegedly favoring Ceuta in land allocations and requested the return of the II Bandera of the Legion and a II Tabor of Regulares to Melilla.
