Juan José Millás wins the 17th José Luis Sampedro Prize

Spanish writer and journalist Juan José Millás has been unanimously awarded the 17th José Luis Sampedro Prize for 2026. The recognition honors his extensive literary and journalistic career, which includes works translated into more than twenty languages and prestigious honors such as the Nadal, Planeta, and National Narrative Prizes.

Millás will receive the award during the Getafe Negro festival, which is scheduled to run from October 14 to 25. The jury, which included representatives from the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Instituto Cervantes, highlighted his ability to blend fiction with journalistic insight through his unique 'articuento' style.

Getafe Mayor Sara Hernández noted that Millás’s work, characterized by a critical perspective and humanism, embodies the spirit of the prize's namesake, José Luis Sampedro. The award was established in 2009 and has previously been granted to notable authors such as Eduardo Mendoza and Rosa Montero.
