Juan José Ríos launches voluntary disarmament campaign

The municipality of Juan José Ríos in Sinaloa has launched the voluntary disarmament campaign titled ‘Sí al Desarme, Sí a la Paz’ (Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace). The initiative aims to reduce violence by decreasing the availability of firearms and dangerous objects.

Under the program, citizens can exchange firearms for a financial incentive of up to 15,000 pesos. Additionally, toy weapons can be exchanged for board games and peace insignias. The campaign is being conducted with guaranteed anonymity and security through coordination between the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), municipal police, and local government authorities.

Mayor Evangelina Llanes Carreón emphasized that the program is designed to strengthen the social fabric and create a safer environment for families. The launch included participation from state security officials and military representatives to promote community cooperation and public safety.
