Juan Karlos Izagirre will not run for Mayor of Donostia

Juan Karlos Izagirre, the EH Bildu spokesperson and former mayor of Donostia (2011–2015), has announced that he will not run as the party's candidate for mayor in the upcoming municipal elections.

Izagirre, who has held various institutional roles for twelve years, stated that his contribution to public institutions should be time-limited. He intends to return to his professional career as a physician in June. He emphasized that political work should be a temporary commitment and noted that the party's leadership should belong to the collective and the grassroots membership rather than a single leader.

While Izagirre will step down from the political front line, he confirmed he will continue to support the project as a base member. The selection of a new candidate for EH Bildu is expected to be determined by the party's members in the coming weeks.
