Juan Manuel Fangio: 75th anniversary of first Formula 1 title

The 75th anniversary of Juan Manuel Fangio winning his first Formula 1 World Championship is being commemorated. The historic victory occurred at the 1951 Spanish Grand Prix held on the Pedralbes street circuit in Barcelona, where Fangio drove an Alfa Romeo 159.

Historical accounts highlight the involvement of Pancho Ibáñez, who was seven years old at the time and tasked with presenting the trophy to Fangio. Ibáñez, who later became a well-known Argentine television personality, was able to attend the event because his father served as the Argentine consul in Barcelona.

Fangio's journey to the championship included a diverse racing career in Argentina, starting from unofficial competitions in the late 1920s and moving through Turismo Carretera, where he became champion in 1940 and 1941. His transition to Formula-style racing in the late 1940s eventually led to his international success in Formula 1.
