RD Vial Trust invests over RD$70 billion in Dominican infrastructure

The RD Vial Trust has disbursed over RD$70 billion since 2021 to fund infrastructure projects managed by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) in the Dominican Republic. Between January and August 2026, the entity has allocated approximately RD$16 billion toward road works, representing roughly 40% of the government's ongoing and announced road projects.

Executive Director Hostos Rizik Lugo reported that current collections are 10% above budget projections. These funds support major works such as bypass systems and road expansions in Macao-Bávaro Alto and Jarabacoa-La Vega. Additionally, the trust manages the maintenance of over 3,500 kilometers of roads and has installed 10,000 solar lamps to improve visibility.

A new maintenance model is being implemented, holding contractors responsible for repairing road elements, such as guardrails, within 48 hours. Furthermore, the government is transitioning toward an electronic toll system to modernize transit, with the first electronic toll gantry scheduled for installation on the Las Américas highway.
