Juan Manzo accuses Jorge Álvarez Máynez of political opportunism

Juan Daniel Manzo Rodríguez, the Undersecretary of Government in Michoacán, has accused Jorge Álvarez Máynez, the national leader of Movimiento Ciudadano, of using the murder of his brother, former Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo Rodríguez, for political gain.

In an open letter, Manzo Rodríguez claimed that Álvarez Máynez and his political movement are seeking “votes and consequently power and money” rather than contributing to the investigation. He further accused the Movimiento del Sombrero and its spokesperson, Grecia Quiroz, of failing to cooperate with authorities by allegedly withholding relevant evidence, such as the deceased mayor’s cell phones.

The official criticized the transformation of the assassination into an “electoral narrative,” describing it as an unacceptable and “rancid” way of conducting politics. He noted that the murder remains unpunished and questioned the movement's failure to demand the capture of specific suspects.
