Juan Martín del Potro advises Carlos Alcaraz on wrist injury recovery
Former US Open champion Juan Martín del Potro has advised Carlos Alcaraz to prioritize patience regarding his wrist injury recovery. Del Potro, whose own career was significantly impacted by multiple wrist surgeries and injuries, shared this advice during a meeting in the United States while Alcaraz was still wearing a brace during his rehabilitation.
Alcaraz recently returned to singles competition at the US Open after a four-month hiatus caused by a right wrist injury. Following his first match against Roman Safiullin, Alcaraz noted that while he played without pain, his service still requires improvement and he remains uncertain how his body will respond to long matches.
Del Potro emphasized that Alcaraz made a wise decision to step away from competition to allow for proper regeneration, noting that the current ranking structure allows top players more flexibility to rest without devastating consequences. Del Potro cautioned against the urge to rush back to protect ranking points, a mistake he admitted to making during his own professional career.
