Juan Orlando Hernández cleared of fraud and money laundering charges in Honduras

A Honduran judge has dismissed fraud and money laundering charges against former president Juan Orlando Hernández in the Pandora II case. The court ruled that evidence presented did not prove Hernández's participation in the investigated acts, specifically noting he did not authorize or administer the funds in question.

The investigation alleged the irregular diversion of approximately $10.8 million between 2010 and 2013. Following the dismissal, Hernández, who was previously extradited to the United States and received a presidential pardon from Donald Trump, characterized the proceedings as 'political persecution'.

In a subsequent legal move, Hernández and his wife, Ana García, announced they will pursue legal action to recover 131 seized assets and properties that were restricted during the investigation. While the former leader celebrates the ruling, anti-corruption activists have expressed concern that the decision undermines judicial integrity.
