Juan Pablo Montoya criticizes son's Formula 2 season
Former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has expressed deep frustration regarding his son Sebastián Montoya's performance during the 2026 Formula 2 season. Speaking on the MontoyAS videopodcast, the Colombian racer described the year as a “disaster,” noting that the financial investment made while racing with Prema Racing did not yield the expected sporting results.
After a promising 2025 debut season where Sebastián finished 12th in the standings with 91 points and secured multiple podiums, the 2026 campaign has seen a significant decline. Sebastián currently sits in 17th place with only 30 points, with the Qatar and Abu Dhabi races remaining. His season has been hampered by mechanical issues and accidents, including a retirement at the British Grand Prix and a crash at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Due to these setbacks, the family is now refocusing their planning and economic strategy toward the 2027 season to maintain Sebastián's progression toward Formula 1.
