Juan Ramón Jiménez Hospital conducts chemical catastrophe drill

The Juan Ramón Jiménez University Hospital in Huelva, Spain, recently hosted a joint emergency simulation exercise to prepare for potential nuclear, radiological, biological, or chemical (NBQR) catastrophes. The drill was conducted in coordination with the Guardia Civil and Emergencias 112 Andalucía.

Approximately 100 participants, including medical staff, nurses, technicians, maintenance personnel, and the Guardia Civil’s Citizen Security Unit (Usecic), took part in the training. The exercise focused on the deployment and activation of decontamination modules at the hospital's emergency entrance, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent cross-contamination, and the triage and treatment of multiple victims.

This sixth edition of the training program aims to strengthen operational coordination and ensure safe, effective patient care during large-scale incidents. The simulation included protocols for isolating affected individuals, managing contaminated waste, and ensuring the secure transfer of patients into the hospital facility.
