Juan Ramón Jiménez Hospital hosts first meeting for urostomy patients

The Juan Ramón Jiménez University Hospital, part of the Andalusian Health Service (SAS), has held its first meeting dedicated to urostomy patients and their families. This initiative aims to increase visibility for the specific needs of these individuals and promote the exchange of personal experiences.

Urostomy involves a surgical procedure that creates an opening in the abdomen, known as a stoma, to allow urine to exit the body into a collection bag. This is often necessary following bladder cancer surgery or other urinary tract diseases. Because urostomies require specific care and adaptation, the hospital designed this meeting to serve as a permanent space for information, listening, and support.

The program focuses on addressing the physical, emotional, and social changes associated with the condition, which can impact self-esteem, intimacy, and personal relationships. By providing specialized care and continuous accompaniment, the hospital seeks to help patients manage their daily lives with greater security, tranquility, and autonomy.
