Juan Ramírez de Lucas's unpublished diary reveals Federico García Lorca's final love

A new book titled ‘Recuerdos: breve historia de un amor’, published by Seix Barral, has been released, documenting the relationship between the poet Federico García Lorca and art critic Juan Ramírez de Lucas.

Ramírez de Lucas, who met the poet in Madrid when he was nineteen years old, kept the details of their three-month romance from May to July 1936 a secret for decades. Before his death in 2010, he decided to break his silence, leaving behind notebooks, a letter from Lorca, a dedicated poem, and drawings to his heirs for publication.

The release coincides with the 90th anniversary of Lorca's assassination and a surge of cultural interest in the poet's life, including the documentary ‘La voz quebrada’ and the film ‘La bola negra de los Javís’. Experts describe the diary as an exceptional autobiographical testimony, being the only substantial written account from one of the men who loved Lorca.
