Juan Riquelme Angulo debuts for Sunderland in Premier League
Ecuadorian forward Juan Riquelme Angulo has made his debut in the Premier League with Sunderland. Despite the team's unfavorable result, the 18-year-old striker described the milestone as one of the most unforgettable moments of his career.
Angulo joined Sunderland from Independiente del Valle on a five-season contract following interest from several major European clubs. Reports indicate that both FC Barcelona and Chelsea were interested in the player, with Barcelona offering a loan deal and Chelsea showing interest until the final day of the summer transfer window. However, Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris personally requested the signing and declined to loan the player out, intending to integrate him into the first-team squad as a third attacking option.
Standing at 1.93 meters, Angulo is expected to compete for playing time alongside teammates such as Brian Brobbey and Wilson Isidor. The young striker, who has already scored for the Ecuadorian national team, is viewed as a significant prospect for the club and his home country.
