Juan Roig visits Ceuta to support Mercadona staff after migration crisis
Juan Roig, president of the Spanish supermarket chain Mercadona, traveled to Ceuta to support employees following a significant migration crisis that began in late July. During his visit, Roig personally inspected the company’s two local stores, La Almadraba and El Sardinero, to assess the working conditions and morale of the staff after weeks of exceptional tension that required increased private security and military support.
Roig also held an institutional meeting with the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas Lara, to express solidarity with the city and its residents. Vivas publicly thanked the businessman for his commitment and for being present during the difficult period.
The migration situation has caused significant local strain, leading to calls for social cohesion from neighborhood associations and organized demonstrations in cities like Seville to show support for the citizens of Ceuta.
