Juan Soto advances recovery with live batting practice for Mets
Dominican outfielder Juan Soto has reached a significant milestone in his recovery from a left calf strain sustained on July 24. During a recent session at Citi Field, Soto participated in live batting practice, completed throwing drills, and performed base running exercises, including rapid turns around the bags, without reporting any discomfort.
Soto, who has been on the injured list since late July, expressed his intention to return to the New York Mets lineup before the conclusion of the 2026 season. While he has not set a specific return date, he noted that the next step is to monitor how his calf responds to the increased physical intensity of these drills.
The Mets, currently holding a 60-73 record and sitting at the bottom of the National League East, are monitoring his progress closely. Interim manager Andy Green stated that while Soto made hard contact during batting practice, the team will remain cautious to avoid setbacks. Soto’s return is viewed as a critical boost for the Mets' offense, where he has maintained a .283 batting average with 21 home runs and 52 RBIs in 84 games this season.
