Juan Soto's back issue sidelines Mets star, returns after two games

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said the team is closely monitoring outfielder Juan Soto’s back discomfort, which could lead to placement on the injured list depending on medical evaluations. The injury raised concerns for New York’s postseason push, as the franchise explored all options while awaiting test results.

Soto missed the Wednesday doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs due to the back stiffness, returning to the starting lineup for the final game of the series on Thursday. He had previously dealt with a strained right calf, hand and elbow issues earlier in the season. Mendoza described seeing Soto in pain during his swings and deciding to remove him for treatment. Although Soto is back, the Mets still await the return of shortstop Francisco Lindor, meaning the two super‑stars have not yet played together in a full game this season.
