Juan Tamariz: Renowned Spanish illusionist dies at 83

Renowned Spanish illusionist Juan Tamariz has passed away in Madrid at the age of 83. A specialist in card magic, close-up magic, and mentalism, Tamariz was widely regarded by experts and enthusiasts as one of the best magicians in the world.

Following his death, a citizen-led initiative has emerged on the ‘Decide Madrid’ platform requesting that a public sculpture be erected in his honor in an emblematic space within his birthplace. The petition seeks to recognize his prolific career and his significant contributions to magic literature and entertainment in Spain. To be formally considered by the City Council, the proposal requires more than 30,000 votes.

Tamariz previously received the Gold Medal of the Madrid City Council in 2019 and the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts in 2011. He was also an honorary citizen of Écija, Seville.
