Juana Dolores considers stopping writing in Catalan
Writer and playwright Juana Dolores has expressed intentions to stop writing in Catalan following prolonged criticism and confrontations with Catalan independence supporters. The artist described her critics as “bitter, whiny, and racist” in a social media video that was subsequently removed.
Dolores has defended the role of the Spanish-speaking working class in protecting the Catalan language and the public school immersion system. She rejected the notion that the language belongs exclusively to the bourgeoisie, stating that “all the beautiful things of this land are perpetuated thanks to the sweat of the organized working class.”
The conflict intensified following her television appearance on TV3 regarding her exhibition ‘Declaración de amor a Lenin’ at La Virreina. Dolores emphasized that her political activism is rooted in class struggle rather than purely independence-driven motives.
