Juanfran Funes appointed Feria de Málaga 2026 promoter amid Málaga CF’s youth surge

Juanfran Funes, the 43‑year‑old coach who guided Málaga CF back to La Liga after an eight‑year absence, was chosen as the official "pregonero" for the Feria de Málaga 2026. Mayor Francisco de la Torre announced the appointment via social media, confirming the opening ceremony will take place on 15 August at 21:00 in the Cortijo de Torres. The selection resulted from an online public poll where Funes out‑voted other candidates.

At the same time, Málaga CF is stressing the strength of its academy. Seventeen players in the current squad are home‑grown, placing the club among the top three Spanish sides for youth graduates. The list includes Carlos López, Rafita, Murillo, and several recent signings who also came through the academy. This focus on local talent follows the club’s recent on‑field success under Funes.
