Juanita Guerra Mena proposes stronger support for Mexican athletes

Mexican Senator Juanita Guerra Mena has proposed a Point of Agreement to urge the 32 federal entities to strengthen comprehensive support for high-performance athletes and those in training stages.

Guerra Mena emphasized that beyond physical talent, athletes require specialized coaches, adequate facilities, equipment, nutrition, medical and psychological care, scientific support, and travel resources. She noted that permanent public policies are necessary to create the conditions required for athletic success.

The senator also acknowledged a recent announcement by the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE) regarding a change in the incentive scheme. Under the new system, all medals won in international competitions will be rewarded, rather than only the highest-value medals as previously practiced.
