Juara City Council ordered to remove unauthorized student photos

The Public Defender's Office of Mato Grosso (DPEMT) has intervened to protect the privacy and image rights of students in the municipal school system of Juara. The action follows reports that local city council members were filming and photographing children during school visits without obtaining authorization from parents or legal guardians.

Investigations revealed that council members entered classrooms without prior scheduling with school administrations, sometimes during exams or other pedagogical activities. The footage was subsequently posted on social media for political promotion and institutional disclosure without using any anonymization tools, such as blurring or pixelation, to hide the students' faces.

Public defender Vitor Lima Nava Martins issued an extrajudicial recommendation demanding the removal of the content within five business days and outlining strict guidelines for future visits. These include mandatory scheduling, a prohibition on capturing images of students without express consent, and the requirement to use technical resources to protect identities if images are used for infrastructure inspections. The President of the City Council, Patrícia Alves Vivian da Guia, confirmed that the posts have been deleted and that instructions have been passed to all council members.
