Juazeiro do Norte clinic owner arrested for severe irregularities

The owner of a rehabilitation clinic in Juazeiro do Norte was arrested following an inspection by the Public Ministry of Ceará (MPCE). The investigation revealed severe irregularities, including patients being held without medical authorization and the use of controlled medications without prescriptions.

Inspectors also discovered improper food storage and consumption, alongside evidence and reports of physical and sexual violence against residents. The operation was conducted by the 2nd Prosecution Office of Juazeiro do Norte in collaboration with municipal and state sanitary surveillance, mental health coordinators, and local psychosocial care centers (CAPS), with support from the Military Police.

The owner faces potential charges of kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment in a healthcare facility, and possession of controlled drugs without a prescription, which may be classified as drug trafficking. This follows a previous inspection in March that had already flagged legal and sanitary issues at the facility.
