Brazilian legislatures approve environmental measures, LDO budgets and health CPI actions
State and municipal legislative bodies across Brazil took several actions in late June and early July 2026.
In the Mato Grosso Assembly, the Environment, Water Resources and Mineral Resources Committee approved 10 of 15 proposed projects, including a law to regularise land use in areas under indigenous or conservation study, a program to train fire‑fighter brigades in rural and traditional communities, and a policy to promote electric‑bio‑fuel vehicles. Residents of the Rio da Casca community, about 90 families, were heard on their land‑regularisation request.
The Assembly’s Health CPI, chaired by deputy Wilson Santos, adopted measures to compel witnesses to attend hearings, overturning judicial decisions that had made attendance optional. The commission plans to issue a preliminary report in early August.
Municipal chambers in several cities (Campina Grande, Macaé, Ouro Branco, Juazeiro, Apucarana and others) debated and approved their 2027 Lei de Diretrizes Orçamentárias (LDO). Revenue estimates ranged from R$ 5.88 bn in Macaé, driven by higher oil royalties, to R$ 363 mn in Ouro Branco, with a focus on fiscal balance, health, education and transparency of parliamentary amendments.
In Aracaju, a workshop titled “Por Dentro da Reforma Tributária” was held for entrepreneurs to explain the practical impact of the national tax reform on pricing, cash flow and compliance.
Overall, the week highlighted coordinated legislative activity on environmental regulation, fiscal planning and health oversight at both state and municipal levels.
