Jubbaland accuses Turkey and Somalia of targeting political opponent in airstrike

The Jubbaland regional administration has accused Turkey and Somalia’s Federal Government of conducting an airstrike in the Doolow district of the Gedo region. The administration claims the strike, allegedly carried out by Turkish military aircraft, targeted the residence of Brigadier General Mahad Abdirahman Adan, a former commander of Somalia’s Custodial Corps.

Reports indicate that two missiles were fired during the attack, wounding General Adan and four civilians, and striking the residence of the Doolow district commissioner. Jubbaland asserts the operation was politically motivated to target an opponent of the Federal Government, rather than a legitimate security action.

In response to the incident, Jubbaland stated that Turkey is no longer viewed as a neutral actor in Somali affairs. The administration has called for a comprehensive review of the arms embargo on Somalia, suggesting that the current arrangements may allow for the political use of heavy weapons and foreign-supplied military technology against federal member states.
