Jucazinho Dam enters dry season at less than 4% capacity

The Jucazinho Dam has entered its driest period of the year, currently holding only 3.89% of its total storage capacity. This volume represents approximately 7.96 million cubic meters of water.

While the current levels are low, the situation is an improvement compared to the same period last year, when the reservoir dropped to 2.21% capacity. In early 2026, the levels reached a critical low of 0.5%, necessitating the use of floating pumps to extract water. Recent rainfall has allowed for a gradual recovery and the return to gravity-based water collection.

The reduction in demand on the Jucazinho reservoir is partly due to the integration of the São Francisco River into the supply systems of several municipalities, including Caruaru, Riacho das Almas, Toritama, Bezerros, and Gravatá, via the Agreste Pipeline.
