JUCIL demands safeguards over Guardia Civil's new file deletion software

The professional association JUCIL has requested guarantees and explanations from the Directorate General of the Guardia Civil regarding the upcoming implementation of secure file deletion software. The tool, intended for corporate IT equipment, is designed to perform irreversible deletions of files, folders, and free space through overwriting, accompanied by a digital certificate for each operation.

JUCIL argues that while secure deletion is necessary for data protection and national security standards, strict safeguards must be established to prevent the accidental loss of documents with judicial, administrative, or historical value. The association expressed urgent concern that the irreversible nature of the software could lead to the permanent disappearance of information required for legal proceedings or operational purposes.
