Judas Priest to reissue ‘Sad Wings of Destiny’ for 50th anniversary

Heavy metal band Judas Priest is releasing two distinct 50th anniversary editions of their 1976 sophomore album, ‘Sad Wings of Destiny’.

The first edition, titled ‘Original 1976 Masters’, is sourced from original analog master tapes and has been remastered for the anniversary. Digital streaming of this version is set for October 2, 2026, with physical CD and Solar Flare vinyl releases following on October 9. The CD edition will include liner notes by Bryan Reesman, archival photographs, and the original 1976 version of ‘Diamonds and Rust’.

The second edition, ‘Remixed & Remastered’, features new mixes by Luie Stylianou and remastering by Matt Colton. Digital versions are expected on October 2, while physical vinyl and CD formats are scheduled for release on November 27.

Both editions aim to restore the band’s intended track sequence, beginning with the atmospheric ‘Prelude’. The original lineup for the album included Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, K. K. Downing, Ian Hill, and Alan Moore.
