Judas Priest's 1991 Toronto Stage Accident Recalled by K. K. Downing
Former Judas Priest guitarist K. K. Downing described the band’s 1991 North American tour stop in Toronto as a "horrible" Spinal‑Tap‑style incident. Singer Rob Halford fell off a motorcycle onto a stage stair that was too low, was knocked unconscious, and the band had to begin their set without vocals while dealing with dry‑ice smoke.
Downing said the mishap occurred during the promotion of the Painkiller album and was the last show with Halford for 14 years before his solo‑career break. Halford has maintained the injury did not cause his departure, and the band later reflected that Painkiller’s initial reception fell short of expectations.
