Jude Law to portray Liverpool FC manager Bill Shankly

Actor Jude Law is set to portray legendary Liverpool FC manager Bill Shankly in a new television series. Written by Jack Thorne, the drama will chronicle Shankly’s rise and his role in transforming the club from a struggling side into a global powerhouse.

Set against the cultural backdrop of 1960s Liverpool, the series will cover Shankly’s tenure from 1959 until his departure in 1974. His leadership saw the club achieve promotion from the Second Division and secure multiple titles, including three First Division Championships, two FA Cups, and the UEFA Cup. The project is being produced in collaboration with Box To Box Films.

Liverpool FC Chairman Tom Werner suggested the series could achieve the prestige of ‘The Crown’, focusing on the family and relationships within the club through the lens of football.
