Judee Sill documentary to premiere in Japanese theaters

The documentary film ‘Lost Angel: Genius of Judee Sill’ is set to be released in Japanese theaters starting October 23 at Uplink Kichijoji, followed by a release at Yebisu Garden Cinema on October 30.

The film explores the turbulent life of American singer-songwriter Judee Sill, who rose to prominence as the first artist for Asylum Records in the early 1970s. Directed by Brian Lindstrom and Andy Brown, the documentary was produced over nine years using extensive archival footage, diaries, sheet music, and interviews. It also incorporates animations based on Sill’s own drawings to depict her internal world.

Featured interviewees include musicians from her era, such as Jackson Browne, Graham Nash, and Linda Ronstadt, as well as contemporary artists influenced by her work. The film traces her journey from a difficult youth and struggles with addiction to her musical achievements and her death in 1979.
