Judge Ada Madaí López Morales targeted in Nebaj house arson

On August 1, 2026, a house belonging to Judge Ada Madaí López Morales in Santa María Nebaj, Quiché, Guatemala was set on fire during a violent incident that followed a police eviction.

The Guatemalan Judicial Organ issued a statement expressing solidarity with the judge, condemning the intimidation, and reaffirming its commitment to judicial independence and the rule of law.

The Iglesia de Dios Evangelio Completo de Guatemala (IDEC) also released a communiqué supporting the judge, clarifying that she is a member of the congregation and spouse of a pastor but holds no ministerial credentials, and denouncing the violence as an attack on justice and social peace.
