Judge Carlos Mahiques alleges media persecution in Argentina

Federal judge Carlos Mahiques claimed he is the target of “media persecution” involving members of the judiciary and journalists. He alleged exchanges of non‑disclosed information between judges and reporters, calling the practice a “promiscuity of information” and urging ethical rules and sanctions for such conduct. Mahiques, father of Justice Minister Juan Bautista Mahiques, highlighted his involvement in the Lago Escondido case and a controversy linked to the Argentine Football Association (AFA), where he celebrated a birthday at a mansion linked to the AFA treasurer. He noted that, despite the accusations, a recent Senate‑approved bill will allow him to remain on the bench for five more years.
