Judge Cristina Pozzer Penzo summoned by Argentine Council of the Magistrature

The Argentine Council of the Magistrature has approved a request to summon Federal Judge Cristina Pozzer Penzo of Goya to testify in a disciplinary proceeding. The request, filed by councilor Álvaro González, is part of case N° 164/2023 brought by the Union of Justice Employees (UEJN) and alleges abuse of authority and labor mistreatment.

Judge Pozzer Penzo oversaw the investigation into the 2024 disappearance of the child Loan Peña. The Commission of Accusation voted unanimously to apply article 20 of the council’s regulations, requiring the judge to appear before the commission on 26 August. Her defense rejects the accusations as “discontextualized facts and absolutely false statements,” arguing that the alleged mistreatment stems from normal workload pressures and ISO‑certified quality standards. The family of the missing child issued a statement expressing solidarity with the judge, describing the allegations as unfounded and politically motivated.

If the council’s procedure proceeds, Judge Pozzer Penzo will be required to give her account of the alleged conduct, while the disciplinary process remains administrative rather than criminal.
