Judge denies Ray J's motion to dismiss Kardashian-Jenner defamation suit

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has denied a motion by Ray J to dismiss a defamation lawsuit filed by Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner. Judge Steven A. Ellis ruled that the libel claims brought by the mother-daughter duo have “at least minimal merit” to proceed.

The lawsuit stems from remarks made by the R&B singer during a TMZ documentary and a Twitch livestream in late 2025, where he suggested the pair were involved in criminal racketeering. Ray J attempted to have the case thrown out using California’s anti-SLAPP statute, arguing that he did not act with “actual malice.” In a notable defense, Ray J claimed he believed the allegations were true because ChatGPT had provided him with that information. However, the judge noted that the AI technology was not a “trustworthy or reliable” source for such claims at the time.

While Ray J’s legal team intends to pursue an appeal, a trial for the case has been set for May 2028.
