Judge dismisses Íñigo Errejón’s defamation lawsuit against Elisa Mouliaá

A Madrid judge has dismissed a defamation lawsuit filed by former Sumar politician Íñigo Errejón against actress Elisa Mouliaá. Judge Arturo Zamarriego ruled that Mouliaá’s social media posts, which accused Errejón of attempting to influence witnesses in a sexual assault case, constituted expressions of opinion and criticism rather than the attribution of specific criminal acts.

The judge determined that the actress’s statements fall under the protection of freedom of expression. The ruling notes that her words were used in a “vulgar or popular sense” to criticize the former spokesperson, rather than as a formal legal imputation of a false crime.

This legal dispute is part of a broader conflict between the two parties. Mouliaá previously filed a complaint against Errejón regarding an alleged sexual assault occurring at a party in 2021, a case that remains pending trial. The dismissal of Errejón’s complaint is subject to appeal.
