Judge investigates Trump administration over DC golf course tree removal

A federal judge is investigating whether the Trump administration deliberately misled the court regarding the removal of over 500 trees from the East Potomac golf course in Washington, D.C. D.C. District Judge Ana Reyes has ordered testimony from Interior Department official Gregory Wischer and acting National Park Service Director Jessica Bowron to address why the trees were removed over Columbus Day weekend without prior notice to the court.

The tree removal occurred amidst ongoing litigation led by the D.C. Preservation League, which opposes efforts to renovate the course for professional tournaments. Judge Reyes expressed concerns regarding the government's motives, noting what appeared to be “a strong showing of bad faith” in their justifications. While Donald Trump has announced plans to begin full-scale renovations on November 15, Judge Reyes is currently blocking the administration from proceeding with major construction on the site.
