Judge Jorge Chamía denies sexual harassment allegations in La Rioja

Federal Judge Daniel Herrera Piedrabuena has recused himself from an investigation involving Jorge Gamal Abdel Chamía, a magistrate of the Federal Oral Tribunal. The case involves allegations of sexual harassment and workplace violence filed by judicial employee María Emilia Galván.

The investigation originated in the federal courts of Buenos Aires before being transferred to La Rioja. The complainant alleges incidents of harassment, sexual comments, and workplace mistreatment occurring during 2023.

Judge Chamía has denied the accusations, describing them as “unbelievable and aberrant lies.” He contends that the complaint is a retaliatory maneuver following the expiration of the employee's extended medical and family leaves. Chamía stated that the employee has been based in Buenos Aires for over four years and failed to return to in-person duties after the Supreme Court's Medical Department determined her leaves should end.
