Judge orders preventive detention for suspects in Jaboticatubas death case

A judge in Jaboticatubas has converted the flagrant arrests of Samuel Castro Melo and Carla Luiza da Silva into preventive detention. The two are suspects in the death of 27-year-old Beatriz Vitória Aparecida Neves Mota, whose body was discovered in a wooded area on October 21.

Judge Rodrigo Fernando Di Gioia Colosimo cited evidence of materiality from police reports, cell phone seizures, and preliminary forensic reports to justify the decision. The suspects face investigations for suspected femicide and concealment of a corpse. Investigators from the Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG) suggest the crime may have been premeditated.

Samuel Melo, 18, is the victim's former boyfriend, while Carla da Silva, 23, is his current girlfriend. While the suspects remain in custody, defense attorney Tatiany Barbosa has issued a statement declaring Silva's innocence and questioning aspects of the investigation, including the vehicle used and the number of people involved.
