Cole Tomas Allen trial set for September 2027

A federal judge has scheduled the trial of Cole Tomas Allen for September 7, 2027, in Washington, D.C. Allen is accused of attempting to kill President Donald Trump during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on April 25, 2026, at the Washington Hilton hotel.

During the incident, Allen allegedly armed himself with guns and knives and fired a shotgun at a Secret Service officer. The officer was struck once in a bullet-resistant vest but was not otherwise injured. The officer returned fire with five shots, though none hit anyone. Allen was injured during the event, though authorities stated his injuries were not caused by gunfire.

U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden set the trial date following a request from Allen’s defense team for additional preparation time. While prosecutors had recommended a May 2027 start, the trial is now expected to begin with jury selection in September and last three to four weeks. Allen faces an attempted assassination charge, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison, as well as charges for assaulting a federal officer and two firearms counts.
