Judges Evaluation Commission members to end mandates in Moldova

Two members of Moldova’s Judges Evaluation Commission, Vice-President Marcel van de Wetering and international member Willem Brouwer, will conclude their terms on December 31, 2026. The Commission announced that Van de Wetering is completing his designated mandate period, while Brouwer is retiring from professional legal activity.

The Commission stated that these departures will not disrupt ongoing operations, and current evaluation processes will continue according to legal mandates. The evaluation of judges is a key component of Moldova’s commitments toward European Union accession.

The Commission, established under Law no. 65/2023, consists of nine members appointed by Parliament, five of whom are proposed by international development partners. Recent activities include the examination of several magistrates and hearings for judges such as Angela Vasilenco, Tatiana Bivol, and Veaceslav Cernalev.
