Judi Dench discusses vision loss and career limitations

British actress Judi Dench, 91, has shared details regarding her ongoing struggle with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a condition she has faced since 2012. The condition, which affects the retina and impairs central vision, has significantly impacted her ability to perform professionally.

In recent interviews, Dench stated that she can no longer participate in theater, film, or read. She noted that the vision loss makes it difficult to recognize faces, sometimes leading her to approach the wrong people in social settings. Despite these challenges and the difficulty of navigating public events like red carpets, Dench has expressed a refusal to retire permanently, stating, “You simply cannot let this get you down.”
