Judi Dench expresses interest in Emmerdale role

Dame Judi Dench has revealed that she has never been invited to appear in a British television soap opera despite her seven-decade career. During an appearance on Sara Cox’s Radio 2 breakfast show, the 91-year-old actress stated, ‘I don’t think I ever have! I’ve never been asked to appear in TV soap opera.’

When asked which soap she would choose, Dench selected the Yorkshire-based Emmerdale, suggesting she could play a ‘very serious shepherdess’ driving sheep.

Additionally, Dench is among over 100 current and former cast members of the BBC Radio 4 drama The Archers who have signed a letter to BBC Director General Matt Brittin. The signatories are urging the BBC to commit to keeping the recording of the radio soap in Birmingham, arguing that moving it away from the West Midlands would remove the heart of the program.
