Judicial Commission of Indonesia proposes Omnibus Law for judicial reform
The Judicial Commission (KY) of Indonesia is advocating for the restructuring of judicial power laws through the Omnibus Law method. This proposal aims to strengthen the oversight of judicial ethics and harmonize the country's judicial system.
KY member Andi Muhammad Asrun stated that this measure is urgent to resolve the current dualism in supervision. Currently, internal oversight is conducted by the Supreme Court's Supervisory Body (Bawas MA), while external oversight is managed by the KY, often covering the same scope of behavior. Asrun emphasized that while legal errors in rulings can be corrected through standard legal appeals, ethical violations require a separate correction mechanism through an independent institution to ensure judges remain fair and impartial.
