Judicial developments in Gabon and Guinea involve prosecutor removals and unionist trials

In Gabon, the Superior Council of the Magistracy has revoked Prosecutor General Eddy Narcisse Minang. Minang, who played a central role in the trial of former President Ali Bongo’s wife and son, was dismissed following allegations of financial malpractice and interference in judicial proceedings. Additionally, Prosecutor Bruno Obiang Mve has received a twelve-month suspension without pay.

These judicial actions occur within the context of Gabon’s political transition following the fall of the Bongo regime. While the new military-led authorities promised legal reforms, the removal of high-ranking prosecutors has raised questions regarding the independence of the judiciary.

In Guinea, a trial involving three union officials from the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea (BCRG) has reached its closing stages. The prosecution has requested the conviction of Aboubacar Sidiki Camara, Aboubacar Yansané, and Momo Camara for offenses including outrage to an agent and violence. The case stems from an incident where the unionists allegedly attempted to meet the BCRG governor and were intercepted by a security officer, Daouda Sankhon. A verdict is expected following the prosecution's request for fines.
