Judicial developments in Paraguay and Argentina

In Paraguay, Minister Eugenio Jiménez announced that a new judicial building in Fernando de la Mora will be inaugurated on September 30. The 15,210 square meter facility features ten levels and two main blocks. One block will house First Instance Courts and oral trial rooms, while the other will accommodate the Peace Court, including a cafeteria and multipurpose hall. The complex includes specialized courts for criminal, civil, commercial, labor, and child/adolescent matters, along with parking and green spaces.

In Argentina, the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation has modified its criteria to assume original jurisdiction in two cases against the Province of Misiones regarding Gross Income Tax retention and perception regimes. This shift allows companies to challenge Misiones' tax collection methods directly before the Supreme Court, citing impacts on interprovincial commerce and the prohibition of internal customs. The cases involve Establecimiento Las Marías S.A. and Cannon Puntana Sociedad Anónima.
