Judicial leaders call for digital inclusion and enhanced women's rights

In Kenya, Supreme Court Judge Isaac Lenaola has called for the justice sector to prioritize digital inclusion to ensure that technological advancements and AI do not exclude persons with disabilities. Speaking at an engagement regarding the Digital, ICT and AI Accessibility Roadmap, Lenaola urged institutions to embed accessibility within their own structures rather than relying solely on external organizations. He emphasized the need for inclusive tools to prevent “digitising exclusion.”

Separately, Sierra Leonean Chief Justice Komba Kamanda has urged African judiciaries to strengthen the enforcement of women’s reproductive and health rights. During a regional colloquium organized by the Africa Judges and Jurists Forum and the University of Pretoria, Kamanda advocated for the practical application of the Maputo Protocol. He called on judges to avoid gender stereotypes and to ensure that legal protections for women and girls are translated into tangible realities rather than remaining “aspirational promises.”
