Judicial mediation programs expand in Mexico and Dominican Republic

Judicial systems in Mexico and the Dominican Republic are emphasizing alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms to humanize legal processes and reduce court congestion.

In the State of Mexico, the Superior Court of Justice has launched an itinerant program of mediation caravans. Starting in Otzolotepec, these services aim to reach 29 communities to address conflicts through dialogue and facilitated accompaniment. Officials noted that agreements reached through these mechanisms carry the same legal weight as a court sentence and can be monitored via virtual centers to promote a culture of peace and social reconstruction.

In the Dominican Republic, the Judicial Mediation Center in Santo Domingo Este is highlighting the transformative impact of mediation. The program, which has been developing for two decades, seeks to provide a “window open to the community” by allowing parties to reach flexible and fair agreements. The initiative focuses on humanizing justice, moving away from strictly automated sentencing toward dialogue-based solutions for complex personal and family matters.
