Judicial reforms and accountability efforts reported in Mexico and Colombia

In Hidalgo, Mexico, Rebeca Aladro Echeverría presented her final report as president of the state's Judiciary. She highlighted efforts to create a more accessible justice system through new courts for vulnerable groups and strengthened mediation services. During her tenure, first-instance judges resolved 51,622 cases, while magistrates handled 4,650 appeals. Additionally, the Judiciary promoted reforms to the Organic Law of the Judiciary and the Law of Dispute Resolution Mechanisms.

In Colombia, the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) continues its work to address the consequences of the armed conflict. With over 10 million victims and 14 million recorded incidents, the JEP focuses on reconstructing truth and restoring dignity. To date, 214 individuals identified as top responsible parties have publicly acknowledged their responsibility to victims. The process involves analyzing over 20 million data points and hearing testimony from more than 15,000 participants to provide accountability for the millions affected by death, disappearance, and displacement.
